Reset Chart of Accounts

You can reset your chart of accounts to replace an existing chart of accounts with a new one.

When you reset your chart of accounts, all existing accounts are deleted.

You must purge all transactions related to existing accounts before you can reset the accounts.

To reset your chart of accounts:

1.  Ensure that you have purged all transactions for the existing accounts.

To do so, select the Purge All Transactions item from the Utilities menu to access the Purge All Transaction Data screen, select the Whole Year option, and, for each open year, click Purge.

Note: The Purge All Transactional Data screen indicates if there were no transactions in a specified year.

2.  Select the Reset Chart of Accounts item from the Utilities menu to open the Reset Chart of Accounts screen.

The screen prompts you if you cannot reset the Chart of Accounts (for example, if there are transactions or balances present).

3.  Click Reset.

You are prompted to confirm that you want to remove your entire chart of accounts, and reminded that you must set up default accounts for vendors, payroll, etc. after resetting your chart of accounts.

4.  Click OK to continue.

Your account information is removed.

5.  Select Accounts from the Company menu to open the Set Up Chart of Accounts screen.

6.  Use the options on the Set Up Chart of Accounts screen to create a new chart of accounts for the client.
